What Is Organo Gold?
Organo Gold is a US based company that promotes its products via the network marketing/MLM business model worldwide.
Although the company at first glance looks like it’s all about coffee – and it is to a large degree – there is more to Organo Gold than just selling coffee to drink.
For starters, they also have a range of teas, weight loss products and some personal care products. Along with this they have a special ingredient that they include in most of their products. What ingredient is that?

Ganoderma Lucidum
What the hell is that, you might ask?
Ganoderma is a mushroom that grows in Asia and North America. Below I’ll briefly list some of the alleged health benefits of this fungus:
- Prevents the multiplication of cancer cells, particularly prostate cancer
- Helps fight fatigue, particularly cancer-related fatigue
- May help rheumatoid arthritis
- Helps protect the liver
There have been tests and numerous studies carried out on this fungus and the above are the conclusions of those studies.
On the flipside there are possible side effects to consuming Ganoderma Lucidum mushrooms, and they are:
- Thins the blood and reduces clotting
- Dizziness and vertigo
- Dry nose and throat
- Headache
- Skin irritation and rashes
- Stomach upset and nausea
- Possible serious liver damage (although rare)
Organo Gold Products
Organo Gold actually has a decent range of products. There are quite a few, so I won’t list them all here. It’s easier just to visit their website and check them out yourself in full detail.
In a nutshell, these are the products on offer:
- Coffee
- Tea
- Fruit energy drinks
- Weight loss shakes
- Beauty soaps
- Toothpaste
There are different types of coffee and tea, as well as a variety of flavours for the energy drinks and shakes. Just about all their coffees, teas, drinks and shakes contain Ganoderma mushroom spores.
As is always the case with any MLM products, the prices are sky high. I must say that you would really want to enjoy your coffee at the prices Organo Gold charge. As an example, a box of Gourmet King of Coffee, which contains 25 sachets (25 servings) costs US $46.50.
That means, if you drink about 5 cups a day like I do, the box would last 5 days only. I’d personally be spending around $60 a week on instant coffee laced with mushroom spores, which may have health benefits or catastrophic side effects.
I think I’d rather spend that $60 on espresso coffee in a nice cafe.
A box of green tea with 25 tea bags sets you back US $33.
In part they claim the cost is so high because the price of harvesting the magic mushrooms is very expensive. But all MLM products are priced high no matter what they are.
Why?
Because they have to pay out so many commissions and bonuses through downlines. It’s just the nature of the MLM business system. No MLM can have bargain-priced products because the nature of the pyramid setup and compensation plan doesn’t allow for cheaper prices.
Organo Gold Business Opportunity
To really make the most of being a distributor for Organo Gold Coffee and its other products, you really need to recruit like crazy and build a downline. The main sales point with these products and business opportunity will be the alleged health benefits of Ganoderma mushrooms. Otherwise you’re just trying to peddle coffee, tea and health drinks that are enormously over-priced.
The business side of Organo is available in over 50 countries around the world and they have a distributor base numbered in the millions. So, lots of competition, which will make recruitment more difficult and rising up through the various ranks much slower.
MLM is not a good business to get into if you really want to make decent money for your efforts. The very nature of the business structure is designed to favour the company and not the distributor. MLM companies get the luxury of having loads of “employees” running around selling their products and recruiting new distributors, while Organo Gold rake in all the profits and benefits.
They don’t even have to pay their employees any wages, nor do they need to spend on advertising.
You go into business with Organo Gold and you don’t own anything. Organo owns it all. You’re just purchasing the right to be a sales rep of Organo Gold Coffee.
It’s for these reasons that so many businesses now go the MLM route, because it’s in their best interests to do so rather than hiring expensive-to-maintain official employees.

Target Audience
I guess coffee drinkers would be one target market. Those who might be going through a cancer crisis and are willing to try the Ganoderma mushrooms just to see if they do help would be another.
As far as the business goes, MLM attracts people looking to do something for themselves without having to commence a business from the very beginning. With something like Organo Gold, everything is set up and ready to go.

- I like coffee, so that makes it slightly more interesting to me
- There could be some really strong health benefits attached to Ganoderma Lucidum mushroom
- The opportunity is open in more than 50 countries
- They have their own charity
What I Don’t Like
- The fungus can have some major side effects in some people
- The products are super duper expensive for things like coffee and tea
- Any MLM venture is a tough way to make money
- You will need to do loads of recruiting to make a decent income from this
- Health and wellness is a really saturated market worldwide
- The average yearly income is less than $600
- The products themselves would be a really tough sell

I don’t see any scam here. In fact a lot of people swear by the expensive products. The company has been around for a long while and currently enjoys distributorship in over 50 nations around the globe.
From a business perspective I see it as a waste of time if the goal is to actually earn decent money for your time and effort.
