How Can I Make Money Online From Home?

“How can I make money online from home?”

I used to ask myself this exact same question. I also spent countless hours searching the internet trying to find answers. I needed to make money just as you obviously need to make money as well. I wanted to do it from home on my computer, be my own boss and work my own hours.

I no longer wanted to be a slave to the man, getting up early every morning for work, driving through traffic to a job I didn’t want to be at, working all day, then making the drive back home through the traffic again. There had to be more to life than this, something better, something with a bit more freedom and the possibility of making more money than a fixed hourly rate. And who wants to spend their lives working away to make someone else rich, building their business while all you manage to do is scrape by each week to pay the bills, to merely survive?

Maybe not everyone thinks like me, but perhaps you do if you first searched for, found and are now reading this post.

What’s The Best Way To Make Money Online At Home?

There are countless ways to make money online. Some have the potential to pay off big time while others make little more than spare change. For example you could do online surveys. Yes, they do pay, but it’s not much. You could also sell eBooks. You might make nothing. Then again, you could get lucky and have an Amazon bestseller. You just never know.

Other things you could try include:

  • Financial GrowthSelling stock photos
  • Selling on Amazon, eBay or Etsy
  • Drop Shipping
  • Begging for money on crowdfunding sites
  • Selling products on your own ecommerce site
  • Creating a paid membership site
  • Running an online “get rich quick” scam (not recommended)
  • Trade stocks, Forex or commodities (risky)
  • Create an app and sell it on iTunes
  • Sell your services and expertise on freelance sites
  • Become a YouTube sensation and get advertising revenue
  • Creating and selling software and digital products

There are some ideas. I actually do a few of them, but one of my main income earners – something that’s a little more stable and steady once the ground work has been done – I haven’t included on the list above.

My #1 Recommendation

If you want to earn consistent money online, then you really need to lay a platform and establish an online business of some sort. You also need to learn how to do this by taking part in the right kind of training. Without training you will just be shooting in the dark, not really knowing what works and what doesn’t, or the correct way to go about setting up your business.

Just about every product for sale online that you can think of will have an affiliate program, where entrepreneurs, like yourself, can promote these products through your own websites and social media. You get paid a commission every time someone clicks through from your unique link and makes a purchase.

The beauty of affiliate marketing is you don’t need your own products. You are not even directly selling someone else’s product. You are merely providing value to your readers and promoting some valuable products into the mix. It costs very little to get started and ongoing overheads are also extremely low. Even the training to learn this business is super cheap compared to any other types of training you might undertake to get that “dream job”. If there is any such thing.

The Wealthy Affiliate Way

I learnt how to set up and establish a successful affiliate marketing business by doing the training over at Wealthy Affiliate. It’s free to get started and see if it’s for you, with a paid upgrade (totally optional) if you want to continue on with the training. Wealthy Affiliate is not just about training, though. It’s far more than that. It’s also a support network of very active and helpful members who collectively have an attitude of “pay it forward”.

As a free member (and you can stay a free member forever if you like), you get to create and host 2 websites. As a paid member that figure goes up to 50. There is heaps of official WA training, but on top of that members freely create training about all things marketing and making money online. Wealthy Affiliate really is a valuable resource. I finished all the official training a long time ago, yet I’m still a member. There is a reason for that. It’s my mastermind group and I’m always learning new ways to improve and make my online business even more profitable. It’s well worth taking a look at least if you are serious about doing business online.

  1. I think when you were “working for the man” building their websites to make them rich, you actually gained a lot of cool experience that you eventually used in your own online exploits.

There’s one benefit of having that job, but I can’t really think of any more.

If I join Wealthy Affiliate, how long would it take for me to make money online if I spent 12 hours per day 7 days a week at it?

I know everyone is different, but let’s say I did all the training with no problems, how long do you think?

Thanks Darren! Great article, will be back soon to see if you’ve replied.

    • Hi James. I’ve never worked for anyone building websites. I’ve only ever made websites for myself, and I learnt how to build Word Press sites through the Wealthy Affiliate training.

How long would it take you to make money if you did the above? That’s really an impossible question to answer. I’m not going to spin you some BS figures like the sales pitches for the get rich quick schemes do – “Make $10,000 in your first 2 weeks”. That’s fantasy land. But if you followed the training, worked 7 days a week 12 hours a day, I think you would be seeing some income in a short space of time.

You have to remember though, this business takes a little time to get rolling regardless of the amount of hours you work initially. It takes time for the search engines to index a new site and for your first few posts to rank. This all gets much quicker once your website has been around for a while and gained some authority.
