What Is Microsoft Rewards?

We all know the name “Microsoft” and this rewards platform is actually run by the real Microsoft Corporation. There are so many rewards platforms and paid surveys sites around these days that they are becoming very common.

This platform, like the others, can be a simple way of making some extra coin for things you often do online anyway. Most of these rewards sites tend to hype up how much you can earn, but the reality is usually way different. Put it this way, you won’t be replacing your current job with an online career on the Microsoft Rewards program.

There is actually not as much to do on this platform as there is on sites such as SendEarnings or Swagbucks, but you can earn rewards simply for doing stuff you already do for free. Microsoft adopted this idea as a way to encourage people to use Microsoft products when online.

Let’s take a look at how it all works.

Is Microsoft Rewards a Scam

How It Works and Ways To Earn

First you need to officially sign up for a free Microsoft account so you can start getting rewarded. There are two main ways to earn rewards points, and they are:

  1. Using the Bing search engine
  2. Installing and using the Microsoft Edge internet browser

There are more ways to earn, but those are the big two. Other ways to earn are by shopping at the Microsoft Store and the Windows Store.

When you earn with Bing search there are 2 levels. You will start out on level 1 and earn 5 points per search you perform. You can’t earn any more than 50 points through search in a 24 hour period, which equates to a total of 10 searches. Once you’ve earned 500 points in a month you graduate to level 2, where your daily cap is raised to 250 rewards points. To maintain your new rank you have to continue to earn 500 points every single month by using Bing instead of Google. At level 2 for a 30 day month, you could earn a total of 7500 points

When it comes to earning with the Microsoft Edge browser, all you have to do is actually use the browser. For every hour you are actively using Edge you will earn 5 rewards points. The downside is there’s a monthly points cap of just 150 points.

Using Bing is far more lucrative than using Edge. Combine the two monthly totals and it comes to 7650 rewards points maximum for 30 day months.

How Much Can You Earn?

This is the part we all want to know. We’ve figured out to a degree how many points you can earn in a month, but what are these points worth to you and what exactly can you do with them?

Well, here’s the bad news.

5000 Microsoft Rewards points is only worth $5. That means the maximum dollar amount you can earn per 30 day month is a paltry $7.65.

Hardly a life altering sum of cash, is it?

Basically it’s all about Microsoft products and here’s what you can do with your rewards towards:

  • Microsoft Rewards ProductsXbox gift cards
  • Windows gift cards
  • Microsoft store discounts
  • Xbox Live
  • Skype credit
  • Games
  • TV shows
  • Movies
  • Apps
  • Amazon gift cards
  • Walmart gift cards
  • And loads more…

Target Audience

This is really aimed at anyone spending time online. It’s different to other rewards sites. Even though you don’t earn much, you don’t have to do anything extra special to earn the rewards, just use Bing for search and Microsoft Edge as your internet browser.

What I Like

  • It’s free
  • You don’t have to perform extra tasks to earn rewards
  • There are stacks of ways to spend your rewards points
  • You’re not wasting extra time to earn rewards

What I Don’t Like

  • You earn very little per month
  • Likely you won’t get a lot of value out of the rewards you earn per month

How Much Does Microsoft Rewards Cost?

It doesn’t cost anything to join the rewards program. Really Microsoft have devised this to get people using the Bing search engine over Google, and as a way to promote their Edge browser.

How To Become An Affiliate Marketer

Is Microsoft Rewards a Scam?

There’s absolutely no scam here. It’s actually quite a smart idea by Microsoft. Get people using their search engine and browser, reward them for doing so, then sell them Microsoft-related products when redeeming their rewards points.

If you fancy use Bing instead of Google and want to give Microsoft Edge a try, then the Microsoft Rewards platform might be worth a whirl.
