What Is Pinecone Research and How Does It Work?
Like many survey companies, Pinecone Research present their platform as an opportunity to work from home. Yes, you can do paid online surveys from home, but they are hardly a career choice.
The two main reasons for this is that you just don’t get enough surveys to do, and when you do a survey the pay is really small compared to the time spent doing it.
More focused on products and consumption, Pinecone is owned and operated by the Nielsen company, and is a fairly new survey company on the block. However, they haven’t really improved on the problem of fair compensation for time spent filling out surveys.
The great thing about surveys is that anyone with some spare time and access to the internet can do them, and either earn some sideline cash or get some gift cards for purchases.
It’s not a bad way to get started online and give people the belief that there is actually money to be made on the internet. You won’t make much with surveys, but for anyone who has never made a cent online before, at least paid surveys open their minds to the possibility.
It’s free to join Pinecone Research, and once you sign up you fill out your profile, answer a range of general questions and you’re good to go.

How Much Money Can You Make?
For starters you can either receive your rewards in the form of a cash payment through PayPal, or you can use your rewards points towards purchases from the Pinecone Research product catalogue.
The average pay per survey comes in at around $3, but this varies depending on the length of the survey. It could be a little more or a little less. It just depends. But $3 is a good average of what you can earn here.
You actually earn points, with 100 points being equivalent to $1.
Surveys are sent to you through email, and you will have a limited time in which to complete the survey before the offer expires. The average survey can take anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes to complete.
One interesting thing about Pinecone Research is they don’t have a minimum payment threshold. You can cash out at any time, whereas most other survey platforms set a limit at around the $20 mark. You probably wouldn’t bother cashing out at $3, but the option is there.

Target Audience
Many people are looking for ways to supplement their income without it getting in the way of their everyday routine. Doing something like paid surveys online can fit the bill perfectly. You won’t make much money doing surveys, but it can be a little bit of extra cash.

What I Don’t Like
- You need to be invited to the platform or join through a survey aggregator such as Get Paid Surveys
- The payment for completing surveys is really small compared to your time spent answering the questions
- You won’ t receive a lot of surveys
- You must first answer a series of qualifying questions before doing the actual “paid” part of the survey. If you don’t qualify you just wasted your time
- With surveys few and far between, it can take a while to build up any decent amounts of cash
- You have to be 18 years old or above to participate
- Surveys are only open to residents of the USA, Canada and the UK

Joining the platform is by invite only or through a third party referral site. It doesn’t cost anything to become a member of Pinecone Research.
Is Pinecone Research a Scam?
It’s not a scam. Some people are quick to label paid survey sites as scams for some reason. I’ve participated in quite a few over the years and I’ve never been scammed. The downside of paid surveys is you are swapping quite a bit of time for not much rewards, and your time is very valuable.
Surveys can be a good way to build some confidence and get started making money online, but after that, if the goal is to establish a good online money earner, then you won’t achieve this by spending all your precious time filling out monotonous surveys. And they do get very monotonous and boring after a while.
Another Way To Make Money Online
Like I said, I’ve done a lot of paid surveys for various companies in the past, and they’re not bad. But if you want to make real money online, then you seriously need to look at spending your time far more wisely than wasting it on earning peanuts.
