What Is “Toluna Surveys”?
Toluna Surveys is exactly as the name suggests: On behalf of various companies and businesses that need to gather information about their target market, Toluna Surveys enlists the help of survey participants to gather that information. It’s all pretty simple and basic.
I’ve seen mentions of Toluna being a scam on the internet in other reviews, but I’ve been a member of Toluna Surveys for about 5 years now, and I can categorically tell you that there is no scam. However, that doesn’t mean I highly recommend getting involved. It really depends on what you’re hoping the outcome will be.
I’ll explain more about my experiences in a minute.
How It Works
If you want to participate in survey taking, all you need to do is create an account with Toluna, answer some questions so they know what type of surveys to send you, then participate in the surveys they send to your email inbox.
I haven’t been active with Toluna for a while, so they no longer send me any surveys to take, but when I was actively doing them, I would be sent probably around 4 or 5 surveys per week. Some of the surveys only take a couple of minutes to complete, while others could take a good half hour or more. The longer the survey, the more money you will get paid.
What I liked about Toluna was that they paid real money, and not just gift cards like some other survey companies. They used to pay me through PayPal and I assume that’s how they still do it.
What I Didn’t Like
Before you qualify for a survey you have to answer a series of survey questions to first see if you qualify for the actual paid part of the survey. This is designed to filter out participants that are not really relevant. However, some companies employing Toluna’s services used to take advantage of this by having potential participants answer up to 20 or 30 questions, only to be told at the end that they don’t qualify for the “actual survey”.
That’s a lot of questions to answer for nothing. It takes a fair bit of time, and the business on the other end is doing nothing more than bypassing the paid survey side of things and gathering a whole heap of free data.
This used to really piss me off.
Sometimes you would be halfway through completing a survey and it would glitch out, telling you that it can’t be completed. Of course, an incomplete survey does not qualify for payment, so you just wasted valuable time for zero reward.
Another thing I wasn’t really happy with was the time it took Toluna to pay me via PayPal once I had accumulated enough points to cash out. Often it would be several months before I received my $25 or so. That’s a long time to wait to get paid.
Also, the amount you get paid compared to the time you spend doing the surveys is miniscule. At the very most you would be lucky to make an average of $10 per hour. More likely it hovered around the $5 per hour mark. So you won’t get rich doing it.
Who Is The Target Audience?
Taking online surveys is okay for a bit of sideline cash, but there’s no way you could make it a profitable fulltime gig. They just don’t pay enough or pay fast enough. You could spend 40 hours a week taking surveys and maybe pull in only $200 or so. The target audience, really, is only those wanting to make a bit of pocket money. It’s not a bad gig for college students and the like. Or someone with some free time and wants to make a bit of extra coin.

The Cons
- The payouts are really small
- It takes a long time to get paid after cashing out
- Too many companies take advantage of the qualifying questions
- Taking surveys can get really tedious
- Many glitches
- It won’t make you rich
Tools and Training
You don’t need any tools and training. So long as you have a tablet or computer and access to the internet, you are good to go. Surveys are no-brainers.

Nothing, just your time. It’s totally free to sign up with the Toluna Group and take their surveys.
Is “Toluna Surveys” A Scam?
No, it’s not a scam. It’s just not a very profitable way to spend your time if you want to make any decent money. It’s okay for a sideline, part-time thing, but don’t spend too much time on survey taking. There are far more profitable things you could be doing with your valuable time.
A Better Way To Make Money Online
If you want to make better use of your time online and your desire is to set up and establish some sort of online business that can generate passive income over time, then consider getting involved in affiliate marketing.
It costs very little to start an affiliate marketing business. It really just takes some time and effort on your part, but the results are well worth it. You don’t need your own products, or to sell and ship anything. All you do is sign up for affiliate programs and promote the products of other companies for a commission. It’s a really simple business model and that’s what I love about it.
