10 Top Reasons To Work From Home

If you’ve always wanted to work from home, then this post is going to offer 10 top reasons to make the transition from workplace to the home office.

But first, a word of warning. If you don’t have the capital to sustain yourself until you get a home-based business established, then it’s best to keep your day job and make the transition more slowly. It can still be done, just resist champing at the bit to do it if you don’t have the finances to cover yourself, or you may just end up in a whole world of stress.

Now, onto the 10 top reasons to work from home.

#1 – No Boss!

If you are anything like me, then this point is huge! I hate working for the man. That’s not to say every boss I ever had was bad. I guess I just prefer to do my own thing. I don’t really like being told what to do, but that’s just me.

I think it’s a plus for just about anyone who wants to work from home to have no boss to answer to, or anyone monitoring your every move and looking over your shoulder all the time.

#2 – Spend More Time With Family

Possibly one of the most common reasons people want to work from home is to be able to spend more time with family; their partner and their children. Life is precious and way too short to be away from loved ones for such long periods of time. We all need to work and make money, but if we can work from home in our own business, then at least we are near our most beloved.

Too much time spent at work is also one of the more common reasons or complaints that lead to unhappiness in a relationship and eventual divorce.

#3 – Set Your Own Work Schedule

This takes a bit of self discipline, and if you don’t have that, then you’d better quickly develop this all-important character trait if you want to be able to successfully work from a home office. It’s a great freedom to be able to set your own work hours; just so long as you do actually get around to doing the work.

If you have something else you need to take care of in the morning, you could catch up on work that afternoon and evening and vice versa. Having the ability to be able to switch things around can be a balancing act, but also a fantastic plus to working from home.

#4 – No Commute To Work And Back

Firstly, this saves the drain on your wallet or purse, not having to shell out for fuel or public transport. Added to that is the time it takes to prepare for work, the travel time, and the frustration of being stuck in traffic or travelling during bad weather.

When you work from home it’s simply a matter of walking from the bedroom to the kitchen, making that caffeine fix, then taking a leisurely stroll into the home office or wherever else within the home you have your work space set up.

#5 – You Can Wear Whatever You Want To Work

Unless you have some sort of home business where you meet up with clients, then you can wear whatever the hell you like when you work at home. You could wear a bathrobe, your PJs, work in the nude. Whatever tickles your fancy and satisfies your personal fetish. Of course, if others are present in the house they may take offence to you wandering around naked.

But the point is you don’t have to spend time getting ready for work, preparing the clothing, wearing a uniform, ironing, putting on make up or whatever. Basically you can get out of bed and you’re ready to go.

#6 – Way Less Stress

It’s true. You start the day with a cruisy cup of coffee or tea, get your mind ready, then launch into your work day, working at your own pace, your own hours, taking a break whenever you choose, using the bathroom whenever you like and enjoying lunch without it being timed by your boss.

Depending on what it is you are working on from home, you may still have deadlines, but you won’t be holed up in an office cubicle taking care of business, stressing about getting home to your family late at night, or fighting your way through traffic.

Overall it is just so much more of a relaxing work/life balance working from home.

Less Stress

#7 – It Saves You Money

We’ve made mention of a few things already, such as the gas and wear and tear on your car, the fees for taking public transport, not having to buy or look after a uniform. Another area we can save by working at home is on food and drinks. Many of us spend on eating out or buying takeaway coffees when we work at a job or business outside the home, but when working at home you can make yourself a healthy and wholesome lunch and make coffee at home as well.

#8 – You Can Be More Productive

In the home environment – especially if you are there alone – then you have way less distractions than you would encounter in your typical workplace and can be more productive. It’s also a lot quieter so you can actually think. This allows you to focus more, feel energised and motivated and able to actually get a lot more done and work with a higher degree of quality.

Just a tip: Play music while you work by all means, but keep the TV off for the most part as hearing people talking on TV shows can be majorly distracting, taking your focus away from the task you are working on.

#9 – Flexibility

We’ve already touched on this, but working from home allows you much greater flexibility. You can take the kids to school and pick them up in the afternoon, go to the bank, take care of other errands, go for a midday swim at the beach, catch up with friends for a coffee.

Even at home itself you can do some household chores in between getting work done on your business. Having flexibility is one of life’s greatest blessings and also adds to point number 6 in this post: less stress.

#10 – Complete Lifestyle Freedom

Number 10 is really a combination of all 9 points above and more. Working from home, especially if it’s your own online business, really adds up to complete lifestyle freedom. You work your own hours, can come and go as you please. If you have a business online such as affiliate marketing, you can even take your business with you when you travel or go away on vacation. You just need your laptop or tablet and an internet connection.

A business from home brings in money as well as giving you more time and freedom to really enjoy life to the max.

  1. Hi Darren
I love ‘Reason number four ‘ the most.

I for one, have to sit for two whole hours in bumper to bumper traffic, every single day just to get to my work.I am irritated, stressed and tired, and my day in my retail job has not even started.

I would really want a change, something better something more purposeful. You mentioned affiliate marketing. What is that all about?

    Thanks

    • Sitting in traffic is the worst.

Affiliate marketing is simple in principle. You become a sales rep for other companies and promote their products. If a sale takes place through one of your leads, you get a commission. You don’t need to carry products or do any direct selling and you don’t need to pack and ship any products or deal with customer. The affiliate company takes care of that. You just send people their way either through your own website or via social media, and get paid if someone buys something.
