Have you ever found yourself wondering how to earn an income online at home? I used to always be thinking about this very thing. The reason I use the word “potentially” is because your success will depend largely upon your dedication, determination and persistence. Nothing online is instant or easy, despite what some so-called “gurus” will have you believe. Those people are just after your money, usually peddling scams, or programs that take way longer to produce results (income) than what they claim.
What Is Affiliate Marketing?
For those of you who may not already know, affiliate marketing is a business model that is super cheap and easy to get started in. You only really need a computer and an internet connection to be on your way. You don’t need your own products, there is no processing of customer orders, and you never have to pack and ship anything out.
You simply promote the existing products of other companies and receive a commission if a sale is generated through your referral.
That’s affiliate marketing stripped right back.
What You Need To Get Started
We’ve already covered the equipment, but we’ll include it in this list for easy reference.
- Computer
- Internet connection
- A niche – hobby, passion, interest
- Training
- A website
- Social media accounts
- An email list – eventually
Why Do You Need A Niche?
Because you want to focus your affiliate marketing efforts in a targeted area. It’s a better experience all round if your niche – your area of interest – is something you have a passion for and already know a bit about. It doesn’t really matter what it is. There is money to be made in just about all niches and there are affiliate programs for just about everything imaginable.
Once you have decided on a niche, or at least have some general ideas, it’s time to get some proper training.
Why Bother With Training?
Without training and guidance you’ll just be guessing how to get started and how to progress. With decent training you will be shown step-by-step what to do at each and every phase as you build out your business.

Keep that image firmly in your mind and live it in your imagination every day, as it will spur you into action and you’ll want it so bad you can taste it. You need to be hungry. If you are, you can and will achieve this kind of dream lifestyle.

Great insight and introduction into affiliate marketing. I have recently signed up to Wealthy Affiliate and can only echo your sentiments – it is a fantastic training program that is easily digestable and very comprehensive. The other great aspect is the community, which is so useful when starting out.
There are so many schemes out there which offer to be the holy grail in get rich quick schemes, from my experience these are all scams, and WA is a welcome alternative which doesn’t hode from the hard work you have to put in to get rewards.
