Affiliate Marketing: Make Money With Product Reviews

Everyone with an affiliate site wants to make some money from it. After all, that’s the whole point in monetising a site in the first place. There are also numerous ways to monetise a site and make some cash as well, and one of the best ways is to make money with product reviews.

Ways To Monetise A Site

  • AdSense
  • Banner Ads
  • Affiliate Links
  • Advertising Widgets
  • Paid Advertising
  • Quality Content With Promotions
  • Product Reviews

Every affiliate site should have a mix of a few of these methods, but not overdone so the pages of the website just look like one giant advertisement. All of these methods have the capacity to generate an income for the site owner, but in my opinion and experience one method stands out above all others to really get those sales conversions.

The Problem With Content-Rich Posts

The internet is loaded with quality and helpful content, and search engines such as Google and Bing love this. It’s always a good idea to offer helpful content on your site as this will get your pages ranked better and lead to more visitors in general. However, when it comes to making money as an affiliate marketer, a post filled with useful free information doesn’t always lead to a sale. Most of the time it actually won’t.

If someone does a Google search for information regarding a problem or how to do something, usually they’re not looking to buy anything. They are just gathering info that can teach them something or help them solve an issue.

Yes, they may see a product your promoting in your very helpful and informative post, and just maybe they might be curious enough to click on your affiliate link, but at the end of the day these people generally are not in “buying mode”.

I can vouch for that based on my own search habits. Very, very rarely do I think about buying anything online when I’m searching for information. It’s just not my frame of mind at the time. I’m not saying it can’t happen, but I’m more likely to buy something when I already have a product in mind.

Often times people will search for snippets of information on a particular subject, click through to a variety of sites offering such information, read what they wanted to read and then leave. That’s just how it goes most of the time.

The Advantage Of Product Reviews

When someone searches for a product, or a review of a particular product, usually they are already quite interested in that product and way further along in the buying process. Therefore, they type into a search engine either the exact product name they’re interested in, or a more general search term for a list of similar products.

Let’s say you’ve written a review for the latest model Braun electric shaver. You’ve targeted good keywords and rank quite high up the search results when someone types in the name of this shaver. They’re already quite interested in buying this shaver, that’s why they’re searching for more information on it.

Chances are they are on the verge of buying this shaver and are just looking for a review from someone who has actually used it. What they want to know is that it’s a good buy. They click through to your site, read your review, are now convinced this shaver is what they want, see a handy link to Amazon or somewhere where they can buy the shaver, click it and go through and make a purchase.

You get paid, they get their shaver, everyone’s happy.

Now, if that same person was just searching for information or tips on how to shave without getting a rash or some such info, then a content-rich post may have provided those tips, perhaps even suggested using the latest Braun electric shaver, but the problem is, the searcher wasn’t looking to buy anything. They were just seeking advice. They may buy something, but more than likely they won’t.

Compare that to the person who was actually looking for the Braun shaver in the first place and you can see there is a huge difference in mentality.

To Sum Up

While it is a good idea to add content-rich and helpful posts to your website regularly, mix it up with thorough and honest product reviews as well. These are more likely to get you a sale, and sales are what you need to stay alive in this business.

  1. Excellent advice on how to monetize a website. What about backlinks? Have you ever used that strategy and what are your thoughts on backlinks?

Thanks for sharing and wishing you the very best.

    • Thanks Jason. I think backlinks still play an important part in helping a website’s overall ranking with the SERPs, but they need to be backlinks from quality sites and the backlinks need to be natural. Using black hat tactics to get a whole bunch of worthless links pointing to your site will likely get your website banned by Google. Thanks for reading.
