The hardest part about getting started making money online is getting started itself, and knowing where and how to start. There is so much information out there on the internet that it can be completely overwhelming and confusing. You know people are making money online. But how?
By having goals that are measureable and defined.
In this post I’ll be encouraging you to just take the first step towards making passive income streams online.
Online Scams
One of the first things I noticed when I started searching for online money making opportunities were the number of get-rich-quick schemes and scams proliferating the internet. Some can be hard to pick, while others are downright obvious.
I’ve sat through many a video presentation or podcast preaching some scheme that promises instant riches, only to find by the end of the seemingly never-ending video that I was told absolutely nothing about the system being sold. And I wasn’t going to be enlightened to any of the details until I handed over some of my hard-earned cash.
There’s no such thing as getting rich quickly anywhere. Not unless you inherit a stack of cash or win the lottery. As far as anything in business goes it just doesn’t happen. Very rarely, anyway. Those schemes that promise to make you $10,000 overnight the minute you start are total BS!
If the perpetrators of the scheme have such a magic money-printing system, then why are they going to the trouble of packaging it and trying to sell it to others for $49 a pop or whatever? That just doesn’t make logical sense. If you’re truly making that much money from an internet system, there are two obvious things you wouldn’t do.
- Sell the system for peanuts
- Tell others your secret
Be very careful of anyone or anything that promises overnight success. There is loads of money to be made on the internet with such a vast global market, but like most things in life it first takes some effort and some time for the rewards to flow into your bank account.

The Hit and Miss Approach
In the past I’ve certainly been guilty of this method of trying to make money both online and offline. Basically it means taking random stabs at ideas without any real plan. It also means not having done much research before taking a shot at something to determine whether it’s worth doing in the first place. This can lead to spending a lot of time (and in some cases money) on an idea that was doomed from the start.
Marketing with a hit and miss approach is also rather fruitless. Yes, you can get lucky and snare an odd sale or two, but more often than not you just spend a lot of time – wasted time – marketing to the wrong audience.
Everything requires some homework, research and at least the bare bones of a plan so things can be achieved in an organised manner. Without a plan you’re floating around like a rudderless ship, not knowing where to go, what to do or how to get there. You cannot reach a destination without first having a destination to work towards.
Which brings us onto the next topic.
Have Goals
If you’re like me when I was first starting out you probably have a whole bunch of jumbled ideas and dreams floating around inside your head.
Write them down!
I can’t emphasise those three words strongly enough. Anyone who has ever achieved success in life had defined goals that they recorded on paper. At first it might just be a vague list of things you would like to do and achieve. That’s okay. It doesn’t matter how vague or undefined they are when you first write them down. Once you have written them down they are there in front of you for you to view regularly.
You’ll find you keep adding to the list as you recall more ideas or formulate new ones. The list will grow, become clearer. The goals will be divided into appropriate sections. Sub-goals will start to multiply out from the main goals. Your vision for making money online is becoming more lucid now.
More real!
Passion
If you have a passion for anything, anything at all, then you can make money online from that passion. Everyone can do it. We’re all passionate about something. And if passion is too strong a word, then we all have something we are very interested in. It might be cars, it might be sport, playing guitar, reading books. It doesn’t matter what it is. There is an audience for everything out there on the world wide web, with a global population heading towards the 8 billion mark.
That’s a lot of potential customers.
That’s the real beauty of the internet. If you have a physical shop front you are defined to a location and reliant on foot traffic, and bringing people through the door with constant advertising. On the internet you can be located practically anywhere in the world, and so can your potential customer.
Being involved in something that you are passionate about – something that really interests you – will make it that much easier to make money online. If you get involved with something that bores you, you’re going to get bored with it and lose interest, and anything you do regarding that subject will likely come across as if the writer or seller was bored presenting it.
Target areas that interest you. Don’t worry if your passion doesn’t sound like it would be that popular. There will still be plenty of people out there who share your passion.
Have Patience and Faith
It takes great faith to step out into the unknown and do something new, but if we don’t do something different, then we’ll just keep getting the same results we always get. The very fact that you are reading this post means you are ready to try something new.
- You know there is more to life
- You want to make more money
- You have a dream, a vision
- You’re tired of the 9 to 5 grind
- You want freedom and a better lifestyle
- You want vacations and the money (and time) to afford them
- You want to be the real you
This list pretty much sums me up, and many of you reading this can probably relate to it. Have the faith to take that first step towards realising your dreams and ambitions online. And have patience. There is much to learn and it takes time to see the fruits of your labour, but they will come. Rewards will start to trickle in, building in momentum until you see a constant stream of money flowing into your accounts, possibly multiple streams of income.
You Need Training and Guidance
As I said at the top of this post, the hardest part about getting started is to know how and where to start. You don’t want to take the hit and miss approach, wasting a lot of time and possibly money as well. What you want to do is short-cut the process.
In order to be successful online we all need training and guidance, and a little bit of regular encouragement along the journey to success. As is the case with not writing out your goals and giving yourself some direction, it’ll be the same result without having some training in how to do all this.
That’s what I was lacking when I first started. I knew I wanted to make online income streams. I knew there had to be loads of money out there in the world to be made via the internet. And I even had some idea of how to do it. But what I lacked was the training, guidance and support to bring my ideas and dreams and visions to life.
