What Is A Lifestyle Business And Should You Want One

What is a lifestyle business and why should anybody want one?

That’s what we are about to discover. That way you can decide if it’s something that appeals to you, or whether you would prefer to stay with the security of a regular job or a different kind of business.

A Lifestyle Business Explained

The aim of a lifestyle business is to set up its founders in such as way as to be able to sustain a particular type of lifestyle. Generally a lifestyle business will make just enough money to be able to support those involved (often these are solo businesses with no employees other than yourself). This allows the business owner more time and freedom to be able to enjoy the things they really like to do in life.

Now this is all relative. The amount of money required from your lifestyle business to be able to support the lifestyle you want can vary dramatically. For example, someone who just wants to work enough so they can watch TV all day in their spare time won’t need to make anywhere near as much money as someone who regularly wants to be able to travel the world.

Create Passive/Residual Income Streams

The very best way to create a business that would suit any lifestyle is to set up residual or passive income streams. This essentially means you do the work once and the money keeps coming in residually. If you want plenty of free time to travel or go out and have fun, then these types of income streams are the absolute ultimate.

Think of book royalties. That’s the perfect residual income stream. Write the book once and sell it over and over again.

Bank interest or return on investments is a perfect example of passive income.

These types of income streams are not some fantasy or myth handed down through the ages. They are real! I have quite a few residual income streams myself. Some are not very big, but if you build enough of them, then they really start to add up.

  1. The great thing about affiliate marketing is that over time it can bring in a residual income. Although it can take some time to built up an affiliate marketing business, the work you do now could be bringing in money for many years. There is definitely often a delayed gratification to it, so it’s not for people who want things to happen straight away. Well, that’s if you do it via blogging. If you use PPC you can get more instant results, but that costs money, so it’s really a case of whether you want to invest your time or money.

    • I think initially the wiser move is to invest the time and try to build up the organic traffic. Once a marketer has more experience and is starting to generate some income, they can then reinvest into some PPC to scale up the money making process. I think it’s all about finding the right balance and learning how to do each aspect of affiliate marketing and advertising properly along the way.

  2. Hi Darren, your post actually solidifies my recent choice to learn the business of Online Marketing.
