What Is Nature’s Sunshine?
Nature’s Sunshine is a publicly listed company that operates in the ever-popular and also super saturated health and wellness niche. They have chosen the multi level marketing (MLM) business model to distribute and sell quite a large range of products, and as of this writing the company has more than half a million active distributors in more than 40 countries.
A lot of people place great emphasis on living a healthy lifestyle these days, and that’s what’s helped give birth to so many companies and manufacturers pushing these types of products and supplements. To make more sales and recruit new members, it's far easier and more credible if you have you own website. Nature’s Sunshine Products
We’ll take a brief look at the very extensive product range that Nature’s Sunshine has to offer. I won’t go in depth here, though, as this review is focused more on the business opportunity and whether you can actually make money selling these products as a distributor for Nature’s Sunshine.
There are literally stacks of products, so I’ll just list the main categories here for reference:
- Children’s Health
- Daily Essentials
- Essential Oils
- Flower Essences
- Personal Care
- Traditional Chinese Medicine
- Vitamins and Minerals
- Sales Aids (for the business)
So quite a few categories with plenty of products under each one.
As far as prices go I was quite surprised. Normally products in any MLM business have prices that are ridiculously high due to the nature of the compensation plan, but Nature’s Sunshine pricing is actually very reasonable.
The MLM Business Opportunity
I’m not a big fan of MLM because generally the way these businesses are set up, they take away so many benefits from the distributors that work for the company. In other words, generally it’s the distributors doing all the buying and selling, recruiting and growing the business, all for no pay; just the promise of commissions and bonuses.
There is a bit more to the Nature’s Sunshine way of doing things though, and we’ll cover that in the next section.
The Nature’s Sunshine Compensation Plan
Nature’s Sunshine allow you to sell their products in retail stores, which is fairly uncommon for MLM companies. Most people who get involved likely won’t have a store, but if you do have a shop that’s relevant, you are allowed to stock the products and sell them to your customers that way.
There are also two different compensation plans attached to this opportunity:
To check out each compensation plan in detail, just click on the name above for either Legacy or Classic.
While each plan tends to work the same way, and it’s not made clear why there even are two plans, the commission levels vary, and that’s the main difference. Both plans offer a series of bonuses you can earn as well as the same ranks to be achieved.
Recruitment is vital in order to reach a ranking level where you can earn decent money. Simply selling products directly as a distributor likely won’t earn you much compared to recruiting people into your downline and earning from their efforts as well.
At a retail level you can make 33% profit margins, and with recruiting you can earn up to 20% residual commissions from your downline.
The ranks you can aspire to are:
- Senior Divisional
- Senior National
- Global Elite
Is Nature’s Sunshine An Illegal Pyramid Scheme?
An illegal pyramid scheme is one that relies entirely on recruitment and the injection of new member money to survive, as well as having no real products.
Nature’s Sunshine has bucket loads of products and they can be sold at retail, so they don’t fit the definition of being an illegal operation despite using a pyramid-style of compensation.
There are bound to be some products in the Nature’s Sunshine range that will appeal to just about everybody, and the prices are reasonable. This one will appeal to anyone looking for some health supplements, as well as a vehicle to making some money in the process. With this particular MLM company, with a focus on retail, shop owners would likely also be keen to give the products a try in their stores for a 33% mark up.
What I Like
- There are lot’s of products to sell
- The products are more fairly priced than other MLM products
- There seems to be a variety of ways you can earn
- I like the fact that Nature’s Sunshine are happy to use retailers
What I Don’t Like
- The two compensation plans gets a little confusing
- MLM is an extremely hard way to make money
- Most people make zero dollars from MLM opportunities
- You don’t get to own your own business, despite the claims that you do
- MLM companies always over-hype the opportunity and totally downplay all the challenges involved
How Much Does Nature’s Sunshine Cost?
In order to become a distributor (Member), you first have to purchase at least $40 worth of product. They do have business materials you can purchase as well, and if you plan to try and sell these products and recruit, then it would be a good idea to purchase some of those.
Is Nature’s Sunshine a Scam?
I don’t see any scam here. It actually looks a little better than some other MLM opportunities I’ve seen. The prices of the products are a lot fairer, making them easier to sell. The hard part is the recruiting. To make real money the MLM way, it’s all about recruiting and building active downlines. That’s the part where most people fail, because it’s really, really hard.

Forget MLM – Make Money With Affiliate Marketing – It’s Way Better!
I’ve done MLM in the past, but these days I focus my efforts on my affiliate marketing business. It really is leaps and bounds far superior to multi level marketing.
Here are just a few of the many advantages:
- No recruiting in order to earn good money
- Work for yourself online from home
- Be your own boss and own your own business
- Promote practically any product to a global marketplace
- No purchasing or directly selling products
- No joining fees
- Earn residual and passive income
- Travel and earn money along the way
I could go on for ages, but that list gives you a bit of an idea.
