If you are a stay at home mom (or dad even), then you will probably want to find some ways to make a little bit of extra cash to contribute, and to maintain that feeling of being productive in this area.

#1 – Freelancing

When people think of the word freelancing, they often attach it to writing. But writing is just one profession that people can freelance in. Freelancers can find regular work in all of the following categories as well as writing:

• Web design
• Programming
• Graphic design
• Consulting
• Financial planning
• Photography
• Video
• Photo and video editing
• Logo design
• Voice over work
• Social media marketing
• Internet marketing
• Ghost writing

These are just a sample, a taster, of the many possibilities for freelancing out there. If you have skills in any of these areas, then freelancing is a great way to earn some extra cash while at home. A simple Google search will bring up a whole list of freelance sites where you can find work.

#2 – Sell Items On eBay and Amazon

This avenue can prove to be quite lucrative if you get onto a hot product. Many people have gone on to form mega successful businesses starting out at home selling on these two retail giants.

Amazon is better in a sense because your items are not involved in a bidding situation. You set the prices and Amazon does all the work of fulfilling orders. However, eBay can be more exciting when you encounter a bidding frenzy on one of your items.

Both are good starting points if you ever want to branch out into your own ecommerce store.

#3 – Become A Virtual Assistant

This is like being a PA (personal assistant) but it all happens entirely on the internet. You could be doing tasks such as checking emails and replying to them, managing social media accounts and updating them with regular posts, fielding phone calls and enquiries.

VA jobs are generally paid at an hourly rate that you negotiate with the hiring party. Depending on your location, rates can vary anywhere from around $10 an hour up to $30 an hour or more.

#4 – Start A Blog And Monetise It

Blogging isn’t all about writing personal, day to day stuff on the internet. These days blogging is more about writing within a chosen niche, something that you are passionate about. When you regularly add to a blog and it gains in popularity, then you can start to monetise your blog by adding things like Google AdSense advertising or affiliate marketing offers.

Tens of thousands of companies offer affiliate programs for those wanting to promote their products for them. These are free to join. When you find products you would like to promote within your niche, you will receive a unique link to include in your posts, as well as banners. If a reader makes a purchase through your link, you get a commission. It’s really very simple and makes for an extremely low-cost online business.

#5 – Online Surveys

Admittedly these are not the best paying gigs in the world, but they are easy, no brainer tasks that anyone at home can do when they have some free time. It’s free and simple to sign up for doing paid surveys online. Some pay in cash (as in via PayPal or direct deposit), while others pay out in gift cards at your favourite stores.

We all have skills, just as everyone has something they need to learn. Think about your skillset and come up with ideas on how you could help other people.
