What Is The Best Managed WordPress Hosting

If you are wondering what is the best web hosting for WordPress themes, then you probably already know what managed hosting is and what the benefits are, so I won’t ramble on about that. Those of us that use WordPress know that the system has its nuances and really thrives on the right kind of hosting platform, which is why we are interested in managed hosting in the first place.

In this post I’ll mainly write about my favourite WordPress managed hosting company, but I’ll also make mention of another which is a little cheaper – but still very good – for those on more of a hosting budget.

WP Engine Is My #1 Choice For Managed WordPress Hosting

Why do I say this?

For one, I’ve always had great service from them with no complaints.

Secondly, WP Engine and the crew are WordPress specialists. All they host are WordPress websites. Nothing else. All their servers and architecture are optimised for WordPress alone. Plus, everyone who works there is a WordPress fanatic. You need to know something from support and they’ll be able to help you.

Unlike a generic hosting company that caters to all forms of hosting, where customer and tech support have to field all sorts of different questions about different systems, WP Engine only handle WordPress. They know the CMS intimately, and because they are only running a system suited to WordPress, any issues can be resolved a lot more readily and easily.

Even though it takes more knowledge of the one system to become a specialist, in a way it’s also easier when a team only has to focus on the one type of hosting platform.

This gives WP Engine a huge advantage in the world of managed WordPress hosting, and a distinctive edge over the competition.

Attention to detail is what sets WP Engine apart from other hosting companies that offer managed WordPress hosting. Virtually all the other hosting companies do general web hosting and just toss managed WP hosting into the mix because it’s popular, but they don’t really put a lot of focus on WordPress and they don’t really tailor a system designed SOLELY for WordPress.

Important specs at a glance:

  • Virtually 100% site uptime
  • Daily site backups
  • Dedicated WordPress hosting platform
  • Extremely fast page load speeds and site speed report
  • Performance statistics
  • 24/7/365 support
  • Malware scanning and firewall protection
  • Multiple levels of Enterprise Grade security

WP Engine’s Hosting Prices

WP Engine’s prices are pretty reasonable to get started, beginning at only $29 a month. This is for a fairly basic hosting package. You only get to host one website on this plan with up to 25K visitors per month.

If you want to host up to 10 WordPress sites, then the Pro Plan will set you back $99 a month. The 25 website plan is $249 per month. They do offer two further hosting plans, but the prices for these are not mentioned on their site.

With every hosting plan you get 60 days to try it out with a money back guarantee. It might even be worth jumping aboard the cheapest plan first, seeing how it goes for you, then you can seamlessly upgrade to the next plan if you need to and you like their platform.

Bluehost Managed WordPress Hosting – My #2 Choice

Bluehost managed WordPress hosting is also very good, and they offer much cheaper prices for their WordPress hosting than WP Engine. However, they are a generic, full-service hosting company and don’t specialise in WordPress alone. But this fact doesn’t mean their managed hosting is not top notch. While I don’t rate it quite as highly as my #1 choice, it certainly is still very good hosting at very affordable prices.

Important specs at a glance:

  • 24/7 support
  • Top notch website stability and security
  • Dedicated managed WordPress hosting
  • Budget pricing
  • cPanel interface for analytics
  • Automatic site backups
  • Fast page loading with 99.9% uptime

It’s Really A Matter Of Budget

If your budget has room in it for WP Engine’s hosting plans, then I recommend going that direction with your WordPress hosting. But as a cheaper alternative for hosting that is still high quality, then there is the Bluehost option.

Whichever host you choose, you’re still going to get great hosting for your WordPress sites.

Managed hosting is definitely the way to go.

  1. Yes, I can see what you mean Darren, as Bluehost is far cheaper than WP Engine.
I have to confess I am not absolutely clear as to the concept of hosting domain, but in either option what concerns me most is they offer back up, they give you technical support, and more. But neither of the 2 companies offers teaching opportunities included in the monthly fee.
Also, you mention that WP Engine offers up to 25k visitors per month. Is this figure guaranteed, or only based on estimates from their current exposure and level of popularity?
    Thank you.

    • The 25 k visitors means your website can receive up to 25 thousand visitors a month. If you get more than that many you have to upgrade to the next package.

As far as training goes, these are hosting companies. They offer training in how to use their platform, but not training for other things.
