~ The “Legal Shield” Review ~
What Is Legal Shield?
This company has been around in one form or another since the 1970s. It was founded by Oklahoma life insurance salesman, Harland Stonecipher. Originally it was a part of the Sportsman’s Motor Club and was then known as Pre-Paid Legal. In 1983 this company began using multi level marketing (MLM) to sell its legal services, creating business opportunities as well as legal services in one. After it was bought out by MidOcean Partners in 2011, the name was changed to Legal Shield.
When Harland Stonecipher created this new legal services system, he did it out of necessity. After suffering injuries in a car accident that wasn’t his fault, he found himself facing legal battles as a result of the accident. In order to enable everyone on every budget to be able to afford legal advice and representation when required, Harland formed the idea of what’s now become Legal Shield.
Over the years this platform, just like many MLM schemes, has been called an illegal pyramid system. However, despite the criticisms, the company has remained in business in one form or another for nearly 50 years.
How Does It Work?
As this review is more about the business opportunity of being involved in Legal Shield rather than from a customer perspective, that’s the angle we’ll be focusing on.
This works in typical MLM fashion. First you pay a monthly fee to be involved in Legal Shield’s business opportunity as an associate. You also receive some basic legal cover and advice for your starting fee and monthly fees. You can then go on to sell Legal Shield’s services to others and make commissions. You can also begin to recruit others into the system by sponsoring them into your down line, where you also make commissions and bonuses on their sales as well. This can lead to handy residual income.
In some ways this is a bit of an easier sell than other MLM product lines out there. Legal fees can be super expensive, so being able to buy into a system that really makes access to various types of lawyers with different specialties affordable, it’s actually a range of products that is quite appealing to the general public; more so that beauty creams, soap powders and dietary supplements.
With most MLM systems, the prices of the products blow out to ridiculous proportions all due to the nature of the business setup. Everyone has to be paid commissions down the line, so a $5 tube of moisturiser ends up costing $35 instead. But with Legal Shield, the price of the legal services actually work out much cheaper than usual, so it’s really a reverse scenario compared to just about all other Network Marketing/MLM schemes.
The idea is that customers purchase pre-paid legal services, kind of a bit like buying insurance. The customer pays their monthly fee per the plan they chose, and they keep paying the monthly fee to remain covered, whether they use the services or not. When a lawyer is required, Legal Shield pay the lawyer their usual fee for the service, but the Legal Shield customer gets the service for a vastly reduced rate due to their Legal Shield membership.
It’s quite a good deal all round, and certainly makes selling the products as an associate somewhat easier.

Who Is The Target Audience?
Like all MLMs it’s two fold. On the one hand you might want to cover yourself for legal fees in the future, as well as start a business for yourself; either as a part-time venture, or maybe something that can be turned into a fulltime gig. Those who enjoy working MLM might really like selling Legal Shield products as they are good value.

- It can be hard making money as a Network Marketer, and even harder recruiting others into your down line
- There have been reports that some associates have failed to receive promised residual income commissions
- You risk losing your entire down line if you fail to remain a qualified associate

Whoever brings you into the business will help train you in the workings of this MLM opportunity. There are also motivational and informational seminars on a regular basis which you can attend, as well as training videos and marketing materials.
How Much Does “Legal Shield” Really Cost?
$17.95 per month is required to be paid by associates to remain active in the Legal Shield business system. You are also required to make a minimum of 3 sales per calendar quarter.
Is “Legal Shield” A Scam?
It’s not a scam and actually has some really competitively priced services to sell as an associate. I’m personally not a fan of the hustle and bustle of the MLM model of doing business, but if it’s your thing then you may like this opportunity.
