Is Monat Global a scam or not? I’ve seen that question asked numerous times about this MLM company, so I decided to take a closer look at it to see what all the fuss was about. Although some people do well out of it, network marketing is a really tough gig, so is Monat Global offering anything decent, or just another MLM grind-a-thon?

I kept seeing people talking about Monat on social media, so I wanted to learn more about it and write a review with my findings. What Is Monat Global?
“MONAT” is actually an abbreviation for the words “Modern Nature”. The company was founded quite recently in 2014 by Luis Urdaneta and his family members. The company is in the beauty niche – in particular hair care – and uses the multi level marketing method to promote and distribute its products.
Although Monat Global has experienced massive growth in the short years they’ve been around, the company has also suffered from its fair share of criticisms and complaints, which is often the case with network marketing businesses.
The company prides itself on offering high quality products that are all natural, as well as presenting business opportunities for customers who want to take things a step further and try and make some money as distributors for Monat.
You can make money with network marketing, but man it's a hard way to do it. There are far easier options to make some cash, such as affiliate marketing.
No buying and selling or recruiting. Just promote and get paid commissions. It's all a pretty simple process when you follow the Wealthy Affiliate training. You can even get started for FREE!
The Products
Many of Monat’s products are designed to detox your hair and make it healthier. While Monat mostly focus on hair care, they do have a cosmetics range as well. They actually have quite a few products, so I won’t mention them all here. Best to check out their website for that.
Their flagship product is a hair care product called REJUVENIQE™ Oil Intensive. This is made up of 13 different ingredients which include vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, fatty acids and more.
Most of their products, while you can buy them separately, come in mini kits, and these kits are:

Under each “system” there are usually 3 products. Monat also have things like beard oil, face masks and cosmetics.
Like all MLM operations, the prices for the products are expensive, due to the very nature of the compensation plan. As an example, a can of hair spray (a small can at only 59ml) costs $29!

This review is more focused on the business opportunity that comes with the Monat Global products, so let’s now take a look at how the company compensates its distributors.
As with any MLM business opportunity, there are 2 main ways to make an income:
- Sell products to others at a direct/retail level
- Recruit members and earn from your downline
Generally you won’t have much chance to make decent money just selling the products to others. The real money is in recruiting, building downlines, earning residual commissions from the efforts of those below you, and climbing the Monat Global ranks.

The MLM Business Opportunity
While MLM companies might have legit opportunities and real products, the way network marketing is set up, it’s designed to heavily favour the company and not those who work for it.
Let’s think about it. Monat basically acquire a massive free workforce, through the promise of earning commissions and bonuses. This saves them bucket loads on wages, insurances and so on.
Monat also utilise this free workforce to spread the word about Monat Global products, thus saving the company bucket loads on their advertising spend.
The distributors also actively grow the company through recruitment, therefore continually building this free workforce for Monat Global to benefit from.
It’s a beautiful setup for the company, but not so great for distributors.
The distributors generally become the company’s main customer base as well, as usually you’ll have to purchase Starter Kits and monthly product to remain eligible to earn commissions.
MLM companies always push the idea and the dream that you are running your own business and growing your own business. But you’re not. Monat will always own the business. You just work for them. You’re growing their business, not your own.
The only way to tell if you really own a business is whether you could ever sell it, and you can’t sell a MLM distributorship. They won’t let you.
Is Monat Global An Illegal Pyramid Operation?
Really, to be allocated the tag of illegal pyramid operation, Monat would have to rely solely on recruitment to make its money and not have any real products of tangible value. Although way over-priced, Monat Global does have real products, so therefore can’t be labelled an illegal pyramid scheme.
Bad Press, Complaints and Legal Action Against Monat Global
In February of 2018, 4 class action lawsuits were filed against Monat Global for deceptive sales tactics and fraud.
Complaints levelled at Monat’s business practices as well as their products have been featured across various news media since the lawsuits were filed.
There have been about 700 complaints about Monat on the BBB website, as of the time of writing this review.
Many people claim to have suffered from scalp burns and major hair loss when using the products. This doesn’t happen to everyone, of course, but there has definitely been a growing number of people affected; enough to make Monat’s products sound very suspect and not recommended.
If you do a Google search for complaints about Monat Global’s products, you’ll be greeted with numerous results and negative reviews.
Many consider the products over-priced (obvious), as well as of a very low quality.
What I Like
- It’s possible to make money with MLM
- The compensation plan is fairer than some other MLMs
- It’s a global business opportunity
What I Don’t Like
- There seems to be far too many complaints around about the quality of the hair care products and adverse affects
- The beauty niche is super saturated and majorly competitive
- The commissions at a retail level are too low
- Network marketing is one of the most labour-intensive and toughest ways to make a decent income
- 95% of people fail to make a profit with MLM, while only 5% make nearly all the money
- The company has all the advantages, not the distributors
- You need to be a master recruiter to make money with this and rise up the ranks
- The products are way too expensive
- The products have been getting loads of bad press for being very poor quality
- It’s hard to sell hair care products that make peoples’ hair fall out
How Much Does Monat Global Cost To Join?
You have to pay a joining fee of $99, as well as pay $19.95 per year to become a Monat Global distributor and be eligible to earn commissions, bonuses and rank advancement. You also need to buy kits, which range in price from $299 to $599.
Is Monat Global a Scam?
I don’t think it’s a scam, but there are far too many complaints and bad press going around about the company’s business practices and the low quality of their pricey products.
Selling expensive MLM products and recruiting new members into your downline is tough enough without all the negative publicity attached to this network marketing company.
This company is currently on a downhill slide, so I certainly wouldn’t recommend jumping aboard right now and going along for their precarious ride.
Give the Monat Global opportunity a miss.
Do What I Do and Make Money Online With My Top Recommendation
It’s totally up to you if you want to get involved in a MLM scheme, but I really don’t recommend it as there are far better (and easier) ways to make money; especially online.
All around the world millions upon millions of people are making awesome money with affiliate marketing. I’m one of those people as well, and I wouldn’t have things any other way.
