~ Pure Romance Reviews ~
What Is Pure Romance?
Founder Patty Brisben started this business out of her Ohio home back in 1993. The company focuses on adult toys and related accessories and initially Patty started hosting parties to introduce people to the range of sex toys she had researched.
While the party plan method of distribution is still greatly encouraged, these days the company operates on the MLM business model, with direct marketing consultants all across America, Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Puerto Rico.
One thing I like about this particular MLM venture, is I haven’t come across one in the adult niche before. Nearly all MLM companies these days seem to be jumping on board the health and wellness bandwagon, which is so far saturated with competition it’s ridiculous.
At least Pure Romance is offering up something different and interesting.
The Pure Romance Products
I won’t get right into all the products here as this review is primarily focused on the business opportunity attached to Pure Romance, but we’ll briefly take a look at the range on offer.
Here are the main product categories:
- Bath & Beauty
- Massage
- Lubes & Creams
- Sex Toys
- Couples
- Lingerie
- Sex Health
While these products and this business opportunity are mostly aimed at women, there are definitely some items here for the men to indulge in as well, and definitely some for couples.
Surprisingly for a business operating on the MLM compensation and distribution method, the prices of the products are quite reasonable. Generally with MLM the prices are sky high due to the nature of paying commissions through downlines, but I was pleasantly surprised by the Pure Romance price tags.
A Different Approach
Pure Romance have a different approach to other companies. They don’t just sell adult toys and sex aids, they also have a firm focus on education when it comes to subjects that are sometimes considered taboo, and really put a lot of attention on helping people improve their sex lives and lose their sexual inhibitions.
Another way to avoid having to deal with inhibitions promoting adult products is to create your own website and promote them that way. You can easily build a website by following the training at Wealthy Affiliate. They make it so easy that anyone can do it.
The main method of achieving this, as well as introducing people to the products and business opportunity, is via the party plan method. Only women are allowed to attend these parties, as that’s where the company’s main focus is.
The problem with party plans as a way of moving product is you can only have so many of them. How many times can you invite the same ladies to an adult toy party?
And is arranging parties focused around selling sex toys something you are going to be able to promote to complete strangers?
It’s a valid point to consider.
Some themes Pure Romance suggest for your parties include:
- Birthday Parties
- Little Black Dress Party
- Wine and Chocolate Party
- Girls’ Night In
- Hen’s Parties
The MLM Business Opportunity
MLM is a tough business no matter what the product, because all the advantages are slanted in favour of the company running the show and not its distributors. Pure Romance is made even harder still because promoting adult products openly is a difficult thing, along with the fact that the main focus for sales and recruitment is holding parties.
The only way to make real money in MLM is with massive recruitment. Relying on retail sales alone, especially with the party plan method, is extremely limited when you consider people can purchase a vast range of sex toys anonymously online from home.
In 1993 when Pure Romance first started up, party plans might have been a fantastic idea, but these days everyone has access to countless products online, so there’s no real need, other than maybe attending one party for the social aspect and novelty factor.
The Pure Romance Compensation Plan
MLM companies make most of their money by selling their products to their own distributor network. That’s why most have a minimum monthly spend to remain eligible to earn. They don’t really sell much at retail.
You are also forced to buy X amount of product just to get involved in the business. This is why there is such a massive emphasis on recruitment to earn. It’s set up this way to force distributors to expand the company’s customer base, which is new distributors.
Companies don’t choose the MLM model as a favour to their distributors. They choose it because it gives the company all the advantages.
When you host a party you receive a free gift as well as discounts. You also need to purchase a starter kit of products before you are eligible to be a consultant and earn. As a consultant you can receive discounts anywhere from 30%-40% off the purchase price of products.
The more you recruit people to your team and grow your downline, you will start becoming eligible to receive various bonuses.
Seriously, with all the focus being on hosting parties, your customer and recruitment base are going to dry up pretty quickly. The company suggests hosting 3 parties a week every week in an effort to try and draw a fulltime income from this.
That’s like 156 parties a year trying to peddle sex toys. Where are you going to find enough new people to come along to all these parties in your local area?
Sounds impossible to me. You’d be better off starting up an eCommerce store and selling sex toys with the drop shipping method. It’d be far more profitable, and you could reach a worldwide audience. Check out the possibilities with Shopify.
Or, if you’re interested in making money with affiliate marketing, then check out Wealthy Affiliate for some great training that kicks off for free.
Is Pure Romance An Illegal Pyramid Scheme?
To be an illegal pyramid scheme would mean Pure Romance had no products and simply charged money for people to join with the promise of them increasing their investment through recruiting. As Pure Romance has many products, it can’t be classified as an illegal pyramid scheme despite the pyramid structure of the compensation plan.
Target Audience
This one is definitely targeted at the ladies, both for the products and the business. Really anyone who wants to add a bit more spice to their love life and earn some income in the process.
What I Like
- I like the adult toy aspect, as it’s something different
- The product prices are quite reasonable for a MLM company
- The company has been around for a long time
- I like how they focus on positive aspects of sexual relations, as well as educating and improving people’s sex lives
- The aim is to help empower women
What I Don’t Like
- The range of products is very limited compared to what people can buy online
- The prices are more expensive than comparable products available online
- Hosting parties constantly to try and make money with this gig sounds like an impossibility
- Most people fail to make money with any MLM venture
- Your customer base and recruitment prospects will likely dry up after only a handful of parties
How Much Does Pure Romance Cost?
To get involved your need to purchase one of the starter kits. At the moment the cheapest kit is $189, for which you’ll receive some bath and beauty products, as well as some bedroom accessories. You also get some business marketing materials.
- Standard Kit = $189
- Deluxe Kit = $399
- Deluxe Plus = $599
Is Pure Romance a Scam?
No, it’s not a scam at all. The products are quite good and reasonably priced, and there is the chance of making some money, or at least purchasing products for yourself at a discount.
As a way to make a consistent and substantial income, I would say it would be next to impossible to do with Pure Romance and their compensation plan. It’s still somewhat of an embarrassing and taboo subject with many people, and relying on making a decent income from hosting constant parties is just not going to happen for 99.99% of people.
Join if you want to have a couple of fun parties and get some discounted products for yourself, but don’t expect any more from this opportunity than that.
MLM Is a Tough Business Model – Try Affiliate Marketing Instead
Any MLM business venture is going to be hard going, simply because to have any chance of making a decent income, you have to recruit like crazy and build downlines.
That’s exactly where most people fail.
You face no such obstacles if you choose affiliate marketing. You don’t have to pay joining fees, buy and sell products, nor are you limited to promoting in your local area.
You act as a rep for the products and services of other companies and earn commissions when sales are made through your marketing efforts.
I do this as my fulltime income earner and I do it all entirely online. It’s not that hard, it’s very cheap to run and anyone can do this successfully if they are shown how.
