What Is A Getresponse Autoresponder - Email Marketing

GetResponse is the email marketing platform I use and I’ve been using it for several years now. If you are reading this you are obviously looking into email marketing and its associated terms, trying to get a grasp of what it’s all about. So what is a GetResponse autoresponder and how does it help with marketing to an email list?

Read my post on why building an email list is important.

An Email Autoresponder Explained

When you sign up with a company like GetResponse to handle your email marketing campaigns, having the ability to set up autoresponders is just one of the great things you can do to get the word out to your growing list of subscribers.

An autoresponder doesn’t actually help you grow your list, but is rather an automated way of sending emails out to those already subscribed to your email list. It’s a way of creating a series of emails and being able to send them out on autopilot when somebody joins your list.

As an example, let’s say you’re offering a free 10 part email course on something as the hook to get people to join your list. You now have 10 emails to send out to subscribers periodically until they’ve received all 10 parts of the course. You don’t want to have to manually send out these emails every time somebody joins your mailing list.

What an autoresponder will do is allow you to attach your premade emails to a calendar. You might decide to set the emails 3 days apart, or a week apart. It’s up to you. Once you have automated the process in this way, when someone joins your email list they’ll start receiving all the emails (in this case, you’re course) on the designated days.

An autoresponder is also used to send out emails promoting product offerings. Not every single email should be a promotional email. Mix it up with free and useful content, sending out a promotion every second or third email. This way your list won’t feel like you’re just trying to sell them stuff all the time. The aim is to keep people on your list and build your list, so keeping the retention rate high is paramount to building a list relatively quickly.

You can also send out one-off email blasts to your list anytime you want, independent of your autoresponder series of emails. These are great for announcing a new special deal that may be time sensitive. In this case you need to blast it to your subscribers in real time, rather than delay it by adding it to your autoresponder.

Below is an example of an autoresponder series of emails I set up for one of my campaigns "Affiliate Marketing for Beginners".

Why Choose GetResponse For Autoresponder Emails?

GetResponse are one of the most popular email marketing/autoresponder platforms around. There are others, such as Aweber, but GetResponse offer everything Aweber does and at a cheaper price. As I said at the start of this post, I’ve been using GetResponse for years and am more than happy with their service.

You get a free trial to check out GetResponse. This enables you to have a play around with everything, from:

  • Opt-in forms
  • Creating emails with their templates
  • Setting up an autoresponder
  • Design a cool landing page

To really harness the power of email marketing on this platform though, you really will want to upgrade your account at some stage. They have a few options for this, with the cheapest package (after the free trial) being only $15 a month for up to 10000 email subscribers.

GetResponse also have a free video course which takes you through the entire process of everything you can do on their platform to build your email list, including tutorials on how to create an autoresponder series.

  1. Hi Darren,

Thanks for the comprehensive overview of an auto-responder series. I personally use Aweber, but I must say having any auto-responder series that is managed is my idea of efficiency. I really enjoyed reading the tips of the types of emails to send, as that can be a bit difficult. You want to get clients as quickly as possible, but it’s also about adding value to your clients! It’s all a balancing act!

    • It definitely is a balancing act for sure. You want to make sales, but you don’t want the people on your list feeling like you are constantly hustling them for cash. It has to be a mutually beneficial relationship. Thanks for reading. How’s Aweber working out for you?
