What Is Valued Opinions and How Does It Work?
Paid surveys are a way to make a bit of small change on the side, but they’re not really a great use of your precious time.
Survey platforms are not renowned for paying much when you complete a survey, and the average payout per survey from just about any platform can be anywhere from 10 cents to maybe $5 for a really long survey. An average hourly rate, if there is such a thing doing surveys, would only be somewhere between $3 to $5 per hour. So not great money unless you live in a third world country perhaps.
Valued Opinions has been around for a long time and it is one of the best known companies when people think of paid surveys. The average payment per survey at Valued Opinions is around $1.50 for a survey that takes 20 odd minutes to complete, so that would equate to approximately $4.50 an hour for your time.
When you join you are asked to fill out your profile and answer a series of different questions. This enables the team at Valued Opinions to match you up with appropriate surveys to send to your email inbox.
The thing I don’t like about Valued Opinions is you can’t get paid out in actual cash. Some other survey sites give you the options of gift cards or a PayPal payment. Valued Opinions is all gift cards and magazine subscriptions.

For a gift card payout you need to reach a total of $20.However, there is an admin fee of $2 attached to each payout, so you really need $22 to receive a $20 gift card of your choice.

The Problem With Valued Opinions and Paid Surveys In General
With valued Opinions it can take almost a month after completing a survey to see the money credited to your account. Other survey sites this occurs the moment you complete the survey. It also depends on how many surveys they send you each week and what they are worth, as to how long it will take to reach the $22 payout threshold.
I’ve done quite a few paid surveys in the past for a variety of companies. My biggest gripe is the amount of money or rewards you earn for your time. It can really be pitiful.
Another major gripe, and many share it, is all surveys will start out with a series of qualifying questions before you get onto the actual paid part of the survey. Some companies will issue up to 30 qualifying questions, and if you don’t end up qualifying after spending 20 minutes answering these questions, you make nothing, yet the company still gets loads of useful data for free.
Some companies can really take full advantage of the qualifying questions and rort the system, getting what information they need without having to pay a cent for it.
It can happen regularly that you get screened out when you answer a particular question with a response opposite to what they’re looking for. It sucks up a lot of time for which there is no reward.
Occasionally surveys glitch out halfway through them too, in which case you can’t finish it and lose your rewards for it. I’ve had that happen to me numerous times.

Target Audience
Paid surveys are really targeted at people with some free time on their hands who are looking to earn some pocket money or maybe use the gift cards for Christmas presents or something. They are certainly not a career move and you would have to spend a lot of time doing surveys on a lot of platforms to make any significant monthly income from it. In fact, there aren’t really enough hours in a week to earn decent money, even if you had more surveys than you can handle.

What I Don’t Like
- Paid surveys are not a profitable swap for your valuable time
- Valued Opinions can be very slow to credit your account with the money earned for successfully completing a survey
- The average money per survey is only around $1.50
- They charge a $2 admin fee every time you want to cash out
- You will likely only receive 3 or 4 surveys per week, so it will take a while to reach $22 and get a gift card
- There is no option for cash through PayPal, only gift cards and magazine subscriptions

It’s totally free to join Valued Opinions and take paid surveys. They are also open to participants from over 20 different countries, so it’s not just restricted to the US.
Is Valued Opinions a Scam?
There is no scam here at all. It’s a legit company and there’s nothing inherently wrong with doing some paid surveys. In my valued opinion I just believe they are not a very profitable way to spend your time, not if the goal is to make some real money online, something more than pocket change.
